In which a COVER is REVEALED

Oh my goodness, what is this???

Image shows book cover in light teal, with an illustration of a woman leaning her chin on her arm and looking off to the right. There is a wine glass in front of her which makes half her face look blurry. The book title is in large white letters on the front, and reads The Opposite of Success.

Why, it’s just THE BEAUTIFUL COVER of my DEBUT NOVEL, which is coming out on October 3 with Text Publishing! I love it so much I am now considering dying my hair red and possibly getting little red freckles tattooed all over my face. It’s gonna be my hot new spring look.

I am not great at describing what the book is about, so here is the blurb from my publisher’s website:

All Lorrie wants is to get promoted, accept her body and end global warming. By Friday. Is that really too much to ask?
Council employee Lorrie Hope has a great partner, two adorable kids and absolutely no idea what to do with her life. This Friday, she’s hoping for change: it’s launch day for her big work project, and she’s applied for a promotion she’s not entirely sure she wants. Meanwhile, her best friend, Alex, is stuck in a mess involving Lorrie’s rakish ex, Ruben—or, more accurately, his wife. Oh, and Ruben’s boss happens to be the mining magnate Sebastian Glup, who is sponsoring Lorrie’s project…
As the day spirals from bad to worse to frankly unhinged, Lorrie and Alex must reconsider what they can expect from life, love and middle management. The Opposite of Success is a riotously funny debut novel about work, motherhood, friendship—and the meaning of failure itself.

Finally, apologies for the shameless self-promotion, but here are some delightful things people have said about it:

The Opposite of Success is full of the riches of life: joy, hilarity, intelligence, stupidity and bad behaviour. I loved it.’

— Sophie Cunningham

‘Like a brilliant conversation, The Opposite of Success is witty, honest and full of natural charisma.’

— Jessica Au

The Opposite of Success is raucously funny and gloriously, painfully real. Think Fleabag as an Australian mum. It’s utterly endearing, I never wanted it to end!’

— Emily Bitto

Further updates

I will let you all know as soon as I have details about the book launch, which will likely be in early October—and will be back to regular programming with this newsletter next week.

Until then,
